The State Of University Of Abuja's Hostel Toilet

During the weekend gwagwaladagist.com took out time to visit the University of Abuja Male Hostel (Mini Campus) to ascertain the state of the student’s toilet and bathroom. This was our findings.

A 400 Level student, who did not want his name disclosed said that it is better to defecate in the bushes than using the toilets in the hostel. According to him, the toilets are always messed up, with tissues and some other harder papers are sometimes discarded inside the toilets.

The source attributed the unhealthy environment to lack of adequate water needed to wash and flush the toilets.

However, the situation is better at the University where the school authority engages a private sanitary company for the upkeep of the hostel. The University of Abuja has been a place of attraction for students in Nigeria because the institution is situated at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Many parents even go as far as bribing school officials to secure admissions for their wards. The high expectations of “lucky” freshmen are usually dashed when they find out that the bathrooms and toilets of the university are not in good condition.

One of the students who spoke with our reporter affirmed that most students do not maintain proper hygiene, saying they use the toilets without bothering to flush. Others who refused to mention their names said when the condition of the toilets deteriorate they result to other means. All efforts to speak with the head of students affairs proved abortive.

A lecturer who spoke on condition of anonymity attributed the ugly conditions of the toilet facilities in universities of Abuja to improper usage by the students, adding that most of the students defecate like uncivilized people.

Another female student in Girls hostel, Nzaga Alheri lamented that because the water reticulation system is not functional, a development which made it mandatory for them to always fetch water from the water reservoir facilities, the shower facilities in their bathroom were not functional.
She stated that at the average of four students per room, only about 8,568 students of the university were being housed in the hostels. She stated that there was need for the federal government to support the university to build more hostels since the institution has enough acres for the construction of such facilities. The student population in the university is over 20,000.
There seems to be a competition between the university authorities and private hostel providers over the issue of hostel management as students living in privately owned hostels within and around the university also testify to a clean sanitary system in their hostels.

Perhaps, the university forgot that students who learn good hygiene in school, can also become important health promoters everywhere especially at home. There is no doubt therefore that poor sanitation and its consequences particularly ill-health adversely affects school participation and contributing to poor classroom performance and early school dropout.

An Environmentalist Mr. Kelechi Uzor also said that poor sanitation decreases learning capacity as measured in educational performance, outcomes, and productivity. The lack of appropriate sanitary facilities may discourages students output especially girls, who are menstruating, in particular.

Lastly, the management of University of Abuja should look beyond the Attention of gigantic infrastructures and issuance of honorary degrees in the last convocation rather should deliver quality academic services to the students who they are paid to serve.

God Bless Nigeria
God Bless University of Abuja

Things Ladies Should Stop Doing If They Don't Have Plans For A Guy - Romance

The truth is painful but must be spoken nonetheless. I've heard some complaints from some friends plus some of my past experiences. Ladies, if you don't have plans for a guy stop the following:

1. Stop calling him "sweet names" like dearie, sweetheart, honey, love etc.

We know you're a "lovie duvie" but biko, control it enh...don't give him false hope. Let friends be friends NOT lovers. Unless you want to switch over, then you open up.

2. Stop visiting him on skimpy clothes and buttoned shirts, especially when you're 'courageous'.

You visit a guy whose ear NL has filled with topics like 'How ladies behave when they want to get laid". If you don't have plans for him, quit sending those signals. Remember: To every sequence, there is a consequence.

3. Stop getting jealous when you see him with other girls

You don't want to marry him, yet you get jealous when he's making headway, relationship-wise. You're not his mother, biko. Friends sef have limits.

4. Stop discussing your past relationships with him- it's not his business.

This thing you are saying is communicating something different to his mind. You want to talk with someone, you have besties right? False hope everywhere! cheesy Now, what do you want him to do? Leave his girl and come solve your relationship problems?

5. Stop visiting him at odd or questionable hours

This is one major way smart and decent girls nicely wipe the thought away from the mind of numerous suitors. If you don't want intimacy, don't visit him at all sef. Not like all guys are like that, but MOST girls are like that. A girl visits you and choose to be a good boy, then she hates you. The next point expatiate more...

6. Don't suggest sleeping in his house or vice versa because something might happen.

This offers a protective measure. Don't get me wrong: if there's an understanding, it's okay. More often than not, in a corrupt world of ours, no one can be trusted in a cold bed. You can trust him but can you trust his "down there". If you don't want "harassment", avoid stuff like this.

7. Don't "miss" him.

Ever woke up in the morning and you see a text message in your phone by "just a friend' saying 'I miss you'. That stirs up questions as much as it does hormones. It's risky.

JUST ADDED:

8. Stop 'breasting' him

You don't have plans for him and you'll be staining his white clean shirt with your b**bs. C'mon! That's unfair! Some will just come with their coconut and rest on your body as if your skin cells are dead and gone. Let's change in 2016.

Abeg enh, let's know the ladies that are still single and available. Don't colour-blind us. If you are in love, show it and don't act funny when we reciprocate. Relationship leads to marriage when both parties are honest to themselves. Its childish and evil to start acting innocent after you have caused him to sin at heart. I honestly believe, a few guys won't easily swallow this bitter pill as they'll seek ways to avenge.

You can share your experiences too.

He said as the government continued in the efforts to meet the needs of the IDPs, more supports were critically required for the IDPs across the three identified kinds of camps before they return back to their communities.

The critical areas where further support is needed are food, non-food items (including basic household needs), shelter, WASH, education, nutrition, protection, health and sexual reproductive health, and psycho-social helps.

The U.S. Ambassador to UN , Samanthan Power, who led a high level delegation from US to the Malkohi IDPs camp and host communities told them that they were there to determine what more could be done to defeat Boko haram so that they can return back to their communities.
"I know how difficult these last years have been for you and on behalf of President Barack Obama, I express my sympathy and my condolences for all you have lost and our resolve to try to make things better together", she said.

We Will Write Your Resignation Letter, Nigerians Abroad Tell Saraki

Some Nigerians in Diaspora have said that it is pertinent for the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to resign

– These Nigerians under the Nigerians in Diaspora Monitoring group (NDMG) gave the Senate President 10 days ultimatum to resign

– The group said the position of Senate President has been tainted beyond imagination with the endless scandals around Saraki

Some Nigerians in diaspora have offered to help the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki write his resignation letter over his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The Nigerians under the umbrella of Nigerians in Diaspora Monitoring Group (NDMG) on Sunday, April 24, said it will gladly help Saraki write his resignation letter if he has no idea on how to do that.

The group gave the Senate President 10 days to resign as leader of the eighth assembly.

The group’s offer came at a walk held by thousands of Nigerians living in London.

The participants of the walk marched around the buildings housing the Nigerian high commission in the United Kingdom.

Also, in a speech presented by Onyilo Adeka, the group said Saraki, whom he accused of entrenching corruption, must resign immediately.

Adeka said the position of Senate President has been tainted beyond imagination with the endless scandals around current holder.

“Bukola Saraki’s position as Senate President is no longer tenable and he should quit immediately allowing to Nigeria make progress.

“We urge constituents of the various Senatorial Districts to closely watch where the senators they elected are pitching their tents in this show of shame with a view to using the instrumentality of recall or voting them out in the next election,” Adeke said.

To back the call for Saraki’s resignation, the group gave 10 reasons why Bukola Saraki must resign as the Senate President.

Read the 10 reason below:

1. His failure to declare his assets or falsifying any declaration he did made is a violation of the Code of Conduct for public officers as spelt out in the constitution.  A lawbreaker has no business leading the nation’s law making arm.

2. Revelations of the Panama papers about his offshore assets, which were not declared by the way, are enough reason for Saraki to have done the needful. His co-traveller in the Panama affair and former Icelandic Prime Minister, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, has demonstrated what a man does when he compromises his honour but Saraki failed to understand the concept. In this he may want to peruse the National Assembly records for the names of Evan/Evans Enwerem, Chuba Okadigbo and Adolphus Wabara.

3. The truly innocent has nothing to fear in clearing his name before a court but instead of defending himself against the Code of Conduct Tribunal charges he had engaged on an endless trip of judgement shopping as he approached one court after the other, not to clear himself, but to block his trial from holding. In addition to the many charges against him he has endlessly abused the judicial system. We are now the butt of online jokes that say the only court Saraki has not approached to stop his trial is the Basketball Court.

4. The purchase of exotic SUVs for members of the chamber he presides over (in addition to being the chairman of the National Assembly) is a clear indication of his unremorseful attitude and the disdain in which he holds Nigerians. It is enough proof that corruption and wasteful public expenditure are an integral part of his DNA as a public office holder and the fact that the public outcry prior to the act fell on deaf ears confirms he has no iota of regard for what citizens want.

5. Saraki has converted his trial into an avenue for wasting tax payers’ money as the business of the National Assembly is crippled each time he has to appear at the CCT. He has denied mobilizing his colleagues to following him to the trial venue in solidarity but what he has not proven is him telling the other senators to continue with what they were elected and paid to do instead of embarking on their charade. It will be prudent that Saraki resigns and faces his trial as an individual while the other lawmakers face their national assignment without distraction.

6. On top of the outrage the charges against him are generating among Nigerians, Saraki upped the insult to Nigerians by attempting to change the goal post when he and his colleagues futilely attempted to amend the laws, the Code of Conduct Bureau Act and Code of Conduct Tribunal Act, under which he was being tried. Even it was another top politician being tried; attempting to change the laws during the trial has all the hallmark of criminality.

7. In the almost one year he has been the President of the Senate, Saraki has not demonstrated concurrence with the desire and determination of Nigerians to tackle corruption head on. Almost all the Senate/National Assembly action he has presided over tend to be in favour of entrenching corruption.

8. The budget fiasco is confirmation that Saraki is out to strangulate the nation for political leverage. A man that can compromise the well-being of 170 million citizens to save his political career is not to be trusted with the office that Saraki currently occupies.

9. Saraki’s persistence in office in the face of the damning indictments against him is blocking Nigeria’s progress with international partners. They cannot trust that a man with baggage this much presiding over parliament will willingly domesticate treaties that have anti- corruption components. Many agreements between Nigerian and other countries are consequently awaiting activation as these nations bid time to see what we do with her legislative arm.

10. Saraki’s several and latest attempts at using the media to plead political persecution as the reason for his compromised position are unacceptable. His explanations, which should have been saved for the courts, did not factor in all the above enumerated reasons. The combination of all these reasons is enough ground for Saraki to immediately resign and we so demand.

The Senate President is facing a 13-count charge for falsely declaring his assets before the Code of Conduct Bureau.

He is currently being tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal under the chairmanship of Danladi Umar who has just been exonerated by the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC).

Prince’s body was released back to his family on Friday afternoon after undergoing a four hour autopsy at the Minnesota medical examiner’s office in Ramsey. From there he was driven to the First Memorial Western Chapel where he was cremated. His ashes were given to his only full sibling, 55 year old Tyka Nelson, pictured above in the multicoloured hair.

A family friend said Prince always wanted a small funeral when he died, he said he didn't want the pump and pageantry. He said:
"Throughout his life and following his Jehovah's Witness faith Prince made it clear to his family that if he ever were to be taken from us he wanted to die with dignity," said a family friend.
"He had very precise ideas about how he wanted his death to be handled and that didn't involve a huge funeral but a quiet service.
"He wanted it to be kept to the minimum of fuss. Prince was such figure you don't need a funeral to remember him by.
"The world has his music instead. He wanted to simply disappear with no fuss, no drama, no fanfare. It was just his style.

University professor hacked to death in Bangladesh, ISIS claims responsibility

A university professor, A.F.M. Rezaul Karim Siddique, who was on his way to work where he taught English at the University in northwestern Bangladesh on Saturday morning was hacked to death in an attack that was similar to that of the atheist blogger and other killings by suspected Muslim militants, police said.

Deputy police commissioner Nahidul Islam said. The attackers used sharp weapons and fled the scene immediately.

The attack was similar to recent killings of atheist bloggers in Muslim-majority Bangladesh by radical Islamists.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack, accusing Siddique of encouraging atheism, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadi websites.

IS has claimed responsibility for other attacks in Bangladesh, but the government has dismissed those claims, saying that ISIS has no presence in Bangladesh.
At least three other professors at Rajshahi University have been killed in recent years, allegedly by Islamist groups.
The professor's brother, Sajidul Karim Siddique, said that he doesn't know why his brother was killed because he was a “very quiet and simple man” who had no enemies and was focused on studying and teaching. He led a cultural group and used to edit a literary magazine.
“So far as we know, he did not have any known enemies and we never found him worried,” the brother said. “We don’t know why it happened to him.”
Following Saturday’s attack, hundreds of students and lecturers marched on Rajshahi University’s campus and blocked a highway, demanding justice for the professor's death.

Amnesty International condemned the killing and said those responsible must be brought to justice.
Amnesty’s South Asia director, Champa Patel, in a statement said:
“The vicious killing … is inexcusable and those responsible must be held to account,” “This attack sadly fits the gruesome pattern established by Islamist extremist groups in Bangladesh who are targeting secular activists and writers.”
“The authorities must do more to put an end to these killings. Not a single person has been brought to justice for the attacks over the past year,” Patel said.

Former WWE wrestler Chyna’s brain donated to science

Former WWE wrestler Chyna-whose real name is Joanie Laurer- who was found dead in her apartment on Wednesday will have her brain donated for scientific research according to her manager, Anthony Anzaldo.

Anzaldo revealed that Laurer had been contacted to join a concussion lawsuit against WWE by other former professional wrestlers but they declined saying they were only interested in pursuing scientific exploration of the effects a career in wrestling and a history of domestic violence has on the brain.
Anzaldo said:
“My hope is that we can do it. I’m in the process of getting the permission to speak on behalf of family to tell the coroner it’s okay to release it.”
We’re not interested in the lawsuit at all,”. “We’re just looking for (the researchers) to give us everything they can get.”
Anzaldo says the research will include Nigerian Doctor- Dr. Bennet Omalu, the pathologist who discovered CTE – Central traumatic encephalopathy. Omalu and his efforts to bring CTE awareness to the NFL were the subject of the Will Smith film Concussion.

Some former pro wrestlers like Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, John Cena and Jeff Hardy confirmed they will be donating their brains for study, if it will help further concussion research, he would be interested in donating his brain as well.

Four Teenagers Rattle Global Market With New Innovations‎

Four Teenagers Rattle Global Market With New Innovations‎

Following an initiative called The Workshop Recently held at the a School in Abuja called Whiteplains British School recently, four teenage boys between the ages of 12 and 13 years from the school invented and developed technological materials and applications that will aid government and the general public in getting things done with less labour and more efficiency.

Emmanuel Ode , Daniel Ishaku, Joshua Nwufoh and Elijah Abang , Elvis Anunwa, added feather to the already feathered cap of Whiteplain British School when they displayed their discoveries of Surveillance Drone, Online Store, Online Crossword Puzzle and a social networking site at the end the workshop study. They developed various solutions with use of Open Source Which Enable people to develop complex web and robotics applications without the use of difficult programming codes.

These inventions like the Surveillance Drone is remote controlled with camera which resists friction. It can be useful for the military or security agencies. The Online Store produced by the head group of diamond unit Daniel Ishaku and Elijah Abang sells virtual products. E-commerce store-www.getstores.biz  .biz where one can get ebooks is a new time global market competitor to Konga, Jumai etc. All the 20 books currently available in the online store have resale rights. They also designed an Android application.

The third invention is an Online Crossword Puzzle designed to helps kids develop their spelling and vocabulary skills. The kids hope to partner with Google and Apple to have it as a mobile application and available on Play Store.  Another laudable online creativity is setting up of a social networking site referred to aswww.surfchat.ml which is currently available for Android applications and in Goggle play store.

The creator of the WORKSHOP initiative called Mr Onos Afo Temienor or OAT said he intends to empower kids all over West Africa, with solutions for the future and innovations that would compete in the global market place. and there creating an open initiative that would gather up to 500 kids from all over West Africa for this Training.
