When God calls you (2)

God Works through different [people] in different ways. 1corinthians 12:6

SKILLED POTTERS recognise that when they press clay it presses back.,giving them an indication of what it can and cannot become. Amature potters often lack that discrement-and the end work Provs it. When you dont honor your raw material.,reality becomes your enemy. The word vocation comes from the latin word for voice. Discovering your callings involves listening very carefully. If you close your ears and pursue something you neither called no equiped to do, you will end up living with anxiety that whispers. You're trying to do something God didn't tell you to do. The courage to acknowledge what you are' not' brings great Freedom ;the lack of it imprisons you. Parker palmer write you can not chose your callings ;you must let your life speak, perhaps you were created to learn, and in so doing to benefits others. If you are, you will find yourself drawn to readin, reflecting, writing, and teachin. However, if you are convinced (or others convince you)that you must be a corporate succes in order for your life to count, you will always be sawing against the grain of your life. Instead, learn to ride the horse in the direction it's going. Philosopher mortimer adler writes about brilliant minds called to sit at the table of what he terms 'the great conversation of human race'. Well Guess what?. Ninety nine percent of us will never sit at that table! But we can look forward to the commendation : ' well done... GOOD and faithful servant' (mattew 25:21),that God Promised to those who hear His call, accept it, devote their lives to fulfilling it.

When God calls you (1)

Give yourselves  fully to the work of the Lord.. 1corinthians 15:58

A career is something you choose;a calling is something you receive. A career is something you do for yourself ;a calling is something you do for God. A career Promise status, money, and power, a calling generally promises difficulty, suffering, and the opportunity to be use by God. A career can be disrupted by any number of Events, but God enables you to fufil your calling even in the most difficult circumstances. For some people in scripture obeying the call of God meant living in slavery, being captured and sent into exile, or being put to death. Their career trajectories didn't look promising, yet they fufilled their calling in extraordinary ways. Chuck colson had one of the highest profile careers in america. He had access to power in the nixon white house, yet he landed in prison. His career was over, but his calling was just beginning. He was called to reach others just like himself. He reflect :'the real legacy of my life was my biggest failure - that I was an ex-convict. My great humilation-being sent to prison - was the beginning of God greatest use in my life;He choose the one experience in which I couldn't use for His glory. 'in the providence of God, the end of your career can be the beginning of your calling. So whatever God has called you to do. The Bible says, Give yourselves fully to the work... Because you, know that you labour in the Lord is not in vain.

We get on really well - Gareth Bale dismisses rift with Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale has staunchly dismissed reports that team mate and three time FIFA player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo is not in good terms with him.

Bale’s relationship with Ronaldo has been constantly scrutinized ever since Bale joined Real Madrid in a world record fee, but most memorably their relationship came to the fore when Ronaldo appeared to fume at Bale for not passing the ball to him in a LA liga match against Espanyol.

Bale has now denied having problems with Cristiano Ronaldo saying that the press just make up stories.

[Ronaldo] speaks English which helped me when I first came here,”  Bale  told Henry Winter of The Times.  .
“We also have that link from the Premier League. We get on really well.
“The press make a lot of things that maybe we don’t but we get on fine. We’ve never had a problem. I’ve never had an argument with him. He’s a very, very passionate person on the pitch, everyone knows that.
“He’s very determined. People sometimes seem to take that the wrong way. We haven’t had a problem.
“[On Man City in the Champions League semi-finals], City have some great players, Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne  is in good form. They wouldn’t be in the Champions League semi-finals without good players. We know the threat they could pose but we’re ready for it.

Lagos to witness fuel shortage as Satelite Depot shuts down

Lagos to witness fuel shortage as Satelite Depot shuts down

The current fuel shortage in Lagos may soon worsen following a technical fault that has forced the Satelite Depot (one of the major products holding facility for the South West) to shut down over the weekend. According to Mr Alamu AYO - Chairman Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Satelite Depot, the depot is not functional. It broke down a few days ago worsening distribution efforts of marketers.

To make matters worse, another major petroleum depot in the state, Apapa Depot has no single product. The combined capacity of the two depots were currently in no way able to serve Lagos as Marketers who used to be given 102-105 trucks in the past are now receiving 6-8 trucks daily.

He however stated that the government entered into an Memorandum of Understanding with the marketers in which Marketers were assured of product availability by first week in May.

Beware Of Heatstroke In This Period Nigerians - Health

Heatstroke is a medical condition. This happens when the human body’s cooling mechanisms are overcome by heat, resulting in a high score of heat usually about 1040F or 400C in adults and 1050F or 40.50C in children. It is often characterised by fever and then, unconsciousness.

Otherwise referred to as sun stroke, this condition is considered a medical emergency.

But this condition is different from a fever, where there is a physiological increase in the temperature set point of the body. The term ‘stroke’ in the word heatstroke, is a misnomer in that it does not involve a blockage or hemorrhage of blood flow to the brain.

Heatstroke generally presents with a hyperthermia of greater than 40.6°C (105.1°F) in combination with disorientation and a lack of sweating.

Before heat stroke occurs, sufferers show signs of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, mental confusion, headaches, and weakness. However, if it occurs when the person is asleep symptoms may be harder to notice.

A symptom of this condition in young children is seizures, unconsciousness, organ failure, and then death.

With the heat experienced lately, there is the need for caution. According to studies, heatstroke occurs when thermoregulation is overwhelmed by a combination of excessive metabolic production of heat (exertion), excessive environmental heat, and insufficient or impaired heat loss, resulting in an abnormally high body temperature.

On the common causes of heatstroke, many medical experts listed exposure to hot environment as a factor.

A respiratory physician, Dr. Cajetan Onyedum, explains that,  “In a type of heatstroke, called non exertional or classic heatstroke, being in a hot environment leads to a rise in body temperature; and this type of heatstroke typically occurs after exposure to hot, humid weather, especially for prolonged periods, such as two or three days. It occurs most often in older adults and in people with chronic illness.”

Onyedum added that engaging in strenuous activities could also lead to heatstroke, if not properly maintained.

“Exertional heat stroke is caused by an increase in body temperature brought on by intense physical activity in hot weather. Anyone exercising or working in hot weather can get exertional heatstroke, but it’s most likely to occur if you are not used to high temperatures,” he said.

In either type of heatstroke, one’s condition can be brought on by the following: wearing excess clothing that prevents sweat from evaporating easily and cooling your body; drinking alcohol, which can affect your body’s ability to regulate your temperature; and becoming dehydrated by not drinking enough water to replenish fluids lost through sweating.

Young people – athletes, outdoor labourers, and personnel engaged in hot-weather activity or wearing heavy personal protective equipment, can experience exertional heatstroke. In environments that are not only hot but also humid, it is important to recognise that humidity reduces the degree to which the body can cool itself by perspiration and evaporation

Onyedum opined that anyone can develop heatstroke, but several factors increase one’s risk, one of which is age.

He said, “Your ability to cope with extreme heat depends of the strength of your central nervous system. In the very young, the central nervous system is not fully developed. For adults over 65, the central nervous system begins to deteriorate, which makes their bodies less able to cope with changes in their body temperature. However, both age groups usually have difficulty remaining hydrated, which also increases risk.

“Sudden exposure to hot weather is another factor. You may be more susceptible to heat-related illness if you are exposed to a sudden increase in temperature, such as a trip to a hotter climate. Limit activity for at least several days to allow your body acclimatises to the change. Another factor is lack of good air conditioning devices. Fans may make you feel better, but during sustained hot weather, air conditioners are the most effective way to cool down and lower humidity.”

Onyedum advised against medications that affect’s one’s body ability to stay hydrated and respond to heat.

“Be especially careful in hot weather if you take medications that narrow your blood vessels (vasoconstrictors), regulate your blood pressure by blocking adrenaline (beta blockers), rid your body of sodium and water (diuretics), or reduce psychiatric symptoms (antidepressants or antipsychotics),” he said.

Citing more symptoms of the condition, a general practitioner, Dr. Omoyili Cynthia said apart from high body temperature, nausea and vomiting could be another symptom.

She said, “Altered mental state or behaviour – confusion, agitation, slurred speech, irritability, delirium, seizures and coma can all result from heatstroke. Alteration in sweating is another symptom. In heatstroke brought on by hot weather, your skin will feel hot and dry to the touch. However, in heatstroke brought on by strenuous exercise, your skin may feel moist. Nausea and vomiting are also symptoms. You may feel sick to your stomach or vomit. Other symptoms include flushed skin whereby your skin may turn red as your body temperature increases.

“Other symptoms include rapid breathing, when your breathing may become rapid and shallow, racing heart rate and heart ache. The risk of heatstroke can be reduced by observing precautions to avoid overheating and dehydration.”

A general practitioner, Dr. Rotimi Lawal, speaking on the preventive measures, explained that light, loose-fitting clothes are suitable for hot weather.

“This type of outfit allows perspiration to evaporate and cool the body. Wide-brimmed hats in light colours help prevent the sun from warming the head and neck. Vents on a hat will help cool the head, as well sweatbands wetted with cool water, especially for athletes. Strenuous exercise should be avoided during daylight hours in hot weather; so should remaining in confined spaces without air-conditioning or adequate ventilation.

“In hot weather, people need to drink plenty of cool liquids to replace fluids lost from sweating. Thirst is definitely not a reliable sign that a person needs fluids. A better indicator is the colour of urine. A dark yellow colour may indicate dehydration. The same cholesterol plaques that can build up in the arteries surrounding the heart can also affect arteries that go through penile tissue.”

However, Lawal said that heat stroke can result in a number of complications, depending on how long the body temperature is high.

“Complications include vital organ damage. Without a quick response to lower body temperature, heat stroke can cause your brain or other vital organs to swell, possibly resulting in permanent damage. Without prompt and adequate treatment, heat stroke can be fatal leading to death,” he said.

Heatstroke treatment centers on cooling your body to a normal temperature to prevent or reduce damage to your brain and vital organs. To do this, your doctor may take these steps:

Other measures, according to Lawal include immersing the patient in cold water.

“A bath of cold or ice water can quickly lower your temperature. Evaporation cooling techniques are very helpful. Some doctors prefer to use evaporation instead of immersion to lower the patient’s body temperature. In this technique, cool water is misted on their skin while warm air fanned over the patient’s body; this causes the water to evaporate, cooling the skin. Another procedure is to pack the victim with ice and cooling blankets or to wrap the person in a special cooling blanket and apply ice packs to their groin, neck, back and armpits to lower their temperature.

Lawal said the patient could also be given medications to stop shivers.

“If treatments to lower your body temperature make you shiver, your doctor may give you a muscle relaxant. Shivering increases your body temperature, making treatment less effective. The person’s condition should be reassessed and stabilised by trained medical personnel. The person’s heart rate and breathing should be monitored properly,” he said.

Fire At NNPC Station In Kaduna - Politics

Three people were reported killed and 10 vehicles burnt as an NNPC accredited fuel station got engulfed by fire this evening in Kaduna.

Eyewitnesses said the fire started around 5:09 p.m. and raged for over three hours.

Alhaji Babangida Kinkinau, owner of a shop near the NNPC accredited fuel station (formerly Fasada Fuel station), said the incident occurred while in the process of discharging fuel by a tanker.

He said: “One of the compartments of the tanker was leaking fuel while in the process of discharge. I rushed to the scene with a bucket to assist as the manager of the fuel station uses rag to block the leakage.

“Unfortunately, the fire was triggered from the fuel that flowed on the main road, which engulfed eight cars and two commercial buses on queue; the tanker and the fuel station got burnt as well as a girl and two men were killed.

“I managed to remove my car from inside the fuel station, but we are in a state of fear because the fire is still raging. We hope the fire will be put under control before it escalates into Kinkinau residential area.”

Fire fighters from the Kaduna State Fire Service and Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) are current battling to quench the fire.

An official of the Kaduna State Fire Service confirmed the death of the three people.

He, however, said the remote cause of the fire cannot be immediately ascertained.

“Currently, we are more concern to bring the fire under control. Investigation will later reveal the remote cause of the fire,” he said.

Many residents of Kinkinau GRA, where the fuel station is located opposite Ungwan Muazu, Nnamdi Azikwe Way, are in a state of confusion, as the fire escalates.

The State Of University Of Abuja's Hostel Toilet

During the weekend gwagwaladagist.com took out time to visit the University of Abuja Male Hostel (Mini Campus) to ascertain the state of the student’s toilet and bathroom. This was our findings.

A 400 Level student, who did not want his name disclosed said that it is better to defecate in the bushes than using the toilets in the hostel. According to him, the toilets are always messed up, with tissues and some other harder papers are sometimes discarded inside the toilets.

The source attributed the unhealthy environment to lack of adequate water needed to wash and flush the toilets.

However, the situation is better at the University where the school authority engages a private sanitary company for the upkeep of the hostel. The University of Abuja has been a place of attraction for students in Nigeria because the institution is situated at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Many parents even go as far as bribing school officials to secure admissions for their wards. The high expectations of “lucky” freshmen are usually dashed when they find out that the bathrooms and toilets of the university are not in good condition.

One of the students who spoke with our reporter affirmed that most students do not maintain proper hygiene, saying they use the toilets without bothering to flush. Others who refused to mention their names said when the condition of the toilets deteriorate they result to other means. All efforts to speak with the head of students affairs proved abortive.

A lecturer who spoke on condition of anonymity attributed the ugly conditions of the toilet facilities in universities of Abuja to improper usage by the students, adding that most of the students defecate like uncivilized people.

Another female student in Girls hostel, Nzaga Alheri lamented that because the water reticulation system is not functional, a development which made it mandatory for them to always fetch water from the water reservoir facilities, the shower facilities in their bathroom were not functional.
She stated that at the average of four students per room, only about 8,568 students of the university were being housed in the hostels. She stated that there was need for the federal government to support the university to build more hostels since the institution has enough acres for the construction of such facilities. The student population in the university is over 20,000.
There seems to be a competition between the university authorities and private hostel providers over the issue of hostel management as students living in privately owned hostels within and around the university also testify to a clean sanitary system in their hostels.

Perhaps, the university forgot that students who learn good hygiene in school, can also become important health promoters everywhere especially at home. There is no doubt therefore that poor sanitation and its consequences particularly ill-health adversely affects school participation and contributing to poor classroom performance and early school dropout.

An Environmentalist Mr. Kelechi Uzor also said that poor sanitation decreases learning capacity as measured in educational performance, outcomes, and productivity. The lack of appropriate sanitary facilities may discourages students output especially girls, who are menstruating, in particular.

Lastly, the management of University of Abuja should look beyond the Attention of gigantic infrastructures and issuance of honorary degrees in the last convocation rather should deliver quality academic services to the students who they are paid to serve.

God Bless Nigeria
God Bless University of Abuja
